Personally I found the film poignant and beautiful. The fact it's based on a relative's stories, with one of their descendants working on the film itself, seems moving to me. It's a dedication to a long past family member, without glorifying or Hollywoodificating the tale. I still found the germans being a bit one dimensional stereotypical, but this is coming from someone who's favorite WW1 literature is All Quiet on the Western Front and its sequel novel. Ultimately I hope more stories like this get produced into film. It's kind of wholesome in a way.

I could do well making a (Top 5 movie) copy, say Kindler's List, or 1915- and use the same premise. but how inventive and creative would that be?
